Direct Garage Door Service covers Southeast daily. Springs, openers, cables and off-track doors, same day where we can. Free visit and free written estimate.
Most new garage door installation calls we take in Arlington start the same way - the door moved fine yesterday. That is normal. The components that fail are load-bearing, and load-bearing parts fail suddenly rather than gradually. In Arlington, spring hail seasons dent panels and summer heat warps seals, which is why we carry the parts for it on the van rather than ordering them in.
Fitting a door is four jobs. The opening is measured for width, height, headroom and backroom. The old door, track and springs come out. New track is set plumb and square to the opening - not reused, not adjusted to fit what was there. Then the door is built up panel by panel, hinged and strutted, and only at that point is the counterbalance sized to what the finished door actually weighs. Skip that last calculation and the new door is hard on its opener from the first week.
Arlington, Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Pantego, Fort Worth and the rest of Tarrant County are all inside the normal radius. The visit costs nothing, the written estimate costs nothing, and the price is fixed before a tool comes out.
Replace when the panels are gone: rot, rust through the skin, or impact damage across more than one section. Replace when the garage is a room you use and the door is single-skin. And replace when the repairs have started arriving more than once a year, because at that point you are buying a door in installments without getting one.
If any of that matches, a technician can diagnose it on site in about ten minutes. We do not guess at it down the phone, and we do not charge to look.
Headroom is the measurement that ambushes people. Standard torsion hardware wants about twelve inches between the top of the opening and the ceiling. There is low-headroom track for less, and it works perfectly well, but it is specified when the door is ordered - not discovered by a fitter on the morning of the install.
Leave it where it is and unplug the opener if the temptation is strong. Almost every expensive garage door repair we quote started as a cheap one that somebody kept operating for another two days.
Need the car? Pull the red cord with the door all the way down, never partway, and lift steadily. If it will not move easily with two hands, it is not going to, and forcing it is how people are injured.
None of this involves touching anything under tension, and all of it makes the phone call shorter and the estimate more accurate. Two minutes in the garage with the door down is enough.
Whatever you find, do not try to correct it. The value is in the description you give us, not in the repair - a technician arriving in Arlington who already knows what failed arrives with the right part on the van.
Two quotes for the same job in Arlington can differ by a lot and both be honest, because they are not for the same work. This is what ours includes as standard.
If a quote you have been given elsewhere does not include the balance check and the safety reversal test, it is not finished work. Those two steps decide whether the repair lasts and whether the door is safe around people.
Spring hail seasons dent panels and summer heat warps seals. Split by component, the effect is not evenly distributed:
| Part | What the local climate does to it |
|---|---|
| Torsion spring | Surface corrosion removes section, stress concentrates there, and the spring fails short of its cycle rating. |
| Lift cables | Rust starts at the bottom bracket end, closest to the floor, and works up the lay of the wire. |
| Rollers | Grit and moisture together destroy unsealed bearings; sealed nylon rollers are largely immune. |
| Bottom seal | Hardens, cracks, and stops sealing - after which the weather is inside the garage rather than outside it. |
| Opener | Suffers indirectly. Every one of the above makes the door heavier to move, and the nylon drive gear is what pays for it. |
None of it is exotic and none of it needs a special product. It needs looking at twice a year, which is the part most people in Arlington skip.

The call itself takes about three minutes. We ask what the door is doing, what it sounds like, whether anything is visibly out of place, and roughly how old it is. That is usually enough to know which parts the van needs.
Loading the van from that description is the part that decides whether your new garage door installation is a one-visit job or a two-visit job. It is also the part a national dispatch number cannot do, because it does not know who is coming.
On site the technician confirms the diagnosis on the door. Sometimes the phone description was wrong - a 'broken opener' is quite often a broken spring - and it is better to find that out with the parts already in the van.
The estimate is written before work starts. The repair itself is usually under two hours, and the door is tested and balanced before anyone leaves.
Insulation is the difference you will actually notice. A non-insulated door is roughly R-0 to R-2; polystyrene-core around R-6 to R-9; polyurethane R-12 to R-18. The polyurethane doors are also stiffer and markedly quieter.
Only if it is near its age or already faulty. If it has years left, it stays - though changing it while the door is off costs almost nothing in extra labor, which is worth knowing before you decide.
Sometimes it physically can, and it is still the wrong call. Track is set plumb and square to the new door, and reusing track that has been running a different door for twenty years is where new-door noise complaints come from.
None of that is unique to Arlington. It is simply what happens when a door is quoted over the phone by somebody who has not seen it, and it is the reason we do not give prices before a technician has stood in front of the door.
Anyone can quote this job blind. What they cannot do is know which of these apply to your door, which is why our estimate happens in your garage rather than on the phone.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Windows and finish | Glazing, wood-look finishes and hardware kits are where the price range widens most, and none of them affect how the door works. |
| Headroom and backroom | Standard torsion wants about twelve inches of headroom. Less means low-headroom track, which is specified at order time rather than discovered on install day. |
| Size and configuration | A single, a double, or two singles side by side are different quantities of door, track and hardware. |
| Insulation | R-0 to R-2 non-insulated, R-6 to R-9 polystyrene, R-12 to R-18 polyurethane. The polyurethane doors are also stiffer and quieter, which is the part people notice. |
| Color and lead time | Stock colors are days. Special finishes are weeks, and we will tell you which before you choose. |
Whichever of them are relevant get explained to you on the visit, with the reasoning, before anything is written down or agreed.
Three things are worth checking on any quote you get in Arlington, ours included.
First, what cycle rating is the spring? A 10,000-cycle spring and a 25,000-cycle spring look identical on an invoice line that says 'spring'. The second costs a little more and lasts more than twice as long, and you are entitled to be told which one you are getting.
Second, is the price fixed or 'from'? A number given over the phone by somebody who has not seen the door is a number that can change once they are standing in your garage. Ours is written down on site and does not move.
Third, what happens if you say no? A free estimate should mean free - no trip charge, no diagnostic fee, no call-out recovered on the way out. If that is not spelled out, ask before they set off.
There is a point at which putting parts into a door is throwing money at it, and there is a point well before that at which a salesman will tell you there is. These are the lines we actually use.
| Situation | What we recommend |
|---|---|
| Damage or rot across two or more panels | Replace. Section-by-section repairs stop making financial sense at that point. |
| Spring, cable or roller failure on sound panels | Repair. These are consumable parts on a door with decades of life left in it. |
| Opener over fifteen years old, board failed | Replace the opener only. A modern head is quieter and carries its own warranty. |
| One dented or cracked panel | Repair. Individual sections are orderable for every mainstream brand. |
| Door works but is deafening | Repair. Nylon rollers, new hinges and a proper service usually solve it. |
| Repairs arriving more than once a year | Replace. You are paying for a new door in installments and not getting one. |
The short version: the mechanism is consumable and the door is not. Springs, cables and rollers get replaced across a door's life as a matter of course. Panels are the thing that decides whether the door itself is finished.
Most of what shortens a door's life in Arlington is preventable, and none of it takes long.
Twice a year, put a lithium or silicone garage door lubricant on the hinges, the roller stems and the spring coils. Not WD-40, which is a solvent and strips what is already there, and not grease on the track, which collects grit and makes it worse.
Once a year, test the balance. Close the door, pull the release cord, and lift it by hand to waist height. A correctly balanced door stays where you put it. If it drops or climbs, the spring is out and the opener is carrying weight it should not be.
Every few months, test the safety reversal. Lay something solid flat under the door and close it. It should touch, stop and go back up.
If a spring or cable has failed, no. Leave it down and do not force it. The counterbalance holds a great deal of stored energy and it can let go without warning.
A new door is the right time to replace the opener if it is anywhere near its age, because the labor overlaps almost entirely. It is also the right time to move to nylon rollers, since the door is being built up from parts anyway.
Most new garage door installation jobs are finished within the same visit, typically under two hours.
Yes - Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Pantego, Fort Worth and the wider Tarrant County area are all inside our normal service radius.
Yes - LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton and the rest. The mechanisms are common across brands and we carry parts for all of them.
A steel door lasts 20 to 30 years, and the parts around it do not. Springs, rollers and cables are consumables on a door that lasts decades, which is why a door that looks fine can need work three or four times in its life without being at fault.
One call gets you a two-hour arrival window rather than a day, and a technician who rings before setting off. No lead auction, no bidding, no stranger quoting your door by phone.
Free visit, free written estimate, fixed price agreed before anything is touched. Throughout Arlington and Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Pantego, Fort Worth.
The most common call we take, and the one job on a door that genuinely hurts people. Measured and matched to your door rather than fitted from whatever is on the van.
What this costs and how fast →Motor runs, door does nothing? That is a stripped nylon gear, and a gear kit costs a fraction of a new opener. We diagnose before we sell.
What this costs and how fast →A door that comes off once comes off again unless the cause is found. Usually a seized roller, a slipped drum or a loose bracket.
What this costs and how fast →Frayed strands near the bottom bracket are the warning. Snapped is the emergency, and it usually takes the door off its track with it.
What this costs and how fast →A straight answer on the phone about whether it really needs somebody tonight, and the same parts and labor rates as a Tuesday morning.
What this costs and how fast →When the panels are past saving. Measured for headroom, track set plumb, counterbalance sized to the finished door - not to the invoice.
